Nikolai Konstantinovich IMCHUK

    Nikolai Konstantinovich IMCHUK, DOB 20.05.1930. He is the youngest male soldier of WWII.  After the outbreak of the war, German planes bombed his orphanage, in Uman near Kiev. He joined the retreating Soviet troops. Later he survived the Uman prisoner of war camp (where Nazis murdered 60,000-70,000 prisoners), and managed to escape and took part in the resistance movement. During the liberation of Ukraine, soldiers adopted him. He served in the 328th Katyusha Rocket Launcher regiment. Soldiers educated him and he became a professional soldier during 1944-1945. His artillery unit took part in the liberation of Budapest and Vienna. He was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War and the Medal "For the Capture of Budapest". He retired from the Army in 1945.
